‘Erin’s World’ is a bespoke frame range specifically designed to accommodate and fit the features of children and adults with Down syndrome, as well as other people with unique facial characteristics.
A Brief History
Being inspired by her youngest daughter, Erin, Maria Dellapina designed this wonderful range in 2004. As with majority of Down’s syndrome babies, the condition was diagnosed at birth. As Erin grew and her facial features developed, it became increasingly frustrating to find a frame that fitted well enough to be beneficial as well as meet her optical requirements. The desire to find an adequate solution lead to the inception of Erin’s World.
Erin’s World Frames have proven time and time again to substantially improve the quality of life for individuals by providing a custom made frame, fit for their exclusive needs.
What’s different about these frames?
They are specially formatted to fit individuals with low bridges
High quality frames and comprehensive aftercare service
Model variations are available in different sizes
Frames are designed with shortened temples, extra wide frame fronts and a lowered bridge. Temples are either 180° spring hinges or TR90.
Frames are finished by using a Titanium memory flex bridge.
The Science of selecting glasses – A few pointers
For the average person, the top of your frames should not be higher than the eyebrows. Having the most appropriate bridge design and position is the key to achieve this. The lowest tangent of the frames should sit above the cheeks so that they don't lift up when you’re smiling. The width of the frames should not exceed the overall width of your face. Ultimately, the size of the frame should be proportionate to your face.
However, patients with Down’s syndrome generally ‘differ from the norm’ so they require frames that have been especially ‘adapted’ for them. Two main characteristics must be considered in frame design. The frame sides ought to be flexible. The bridge should be lower so that the frame sits higher on the bridge enabling the patient to see through the middle of the lenses.
Thanks to Chloe, Erin's World frames have become a fabric of specialist dispensing in our practice.
