Ever considered getting contact lenses but felt put off by some of the negative myths surrounding them? We’re here to get the bottom of those myths and tell you they’re not true! Contact lenses are a fantastic, cost effective and hassle free alternative to glasses. Let the Myth Busting begin
Contact Lenses can get stuck behind your eyes
False! It’s physically impossible. A thin membrane around the eye prevents anything from slipping behind the eye and causing any damage.
You need to be comfortable touching your eye balls if you want to wear contacts…
Not true! In fact, if you insert your lens properly, you shouldn’t need to touch your eye at all. The lens will be between your finger and your eye so your finger doesn’t actually touch the eye itself. If you’re still worried, why not pop into the practice and ask us to show you how to safely insert a lens?
I’m too old for contact lenses
There’s no such thing as being too old to wear contact lenses. They come in a range of different prescriptions including bifocals and varifocals.
I’m too young for contact lenses
This is also false although it really comes down to the nature of the child. Some children can benefit from contact lenses from an early age if they are taught how to correctly insert them. In fact, modern daily disposable lenses require no cleaning or storage and are therefore perfect for children. We can help you find the best contact lens solution for your child to fit their needs.
I tried them in the past and found them uncomfortable
The technology used in contact lenses has come a long way in a short period of time and allowing for more durable, comfortable materials and a wider range of prescriptions. If you stopped wearing your lens a long time ago due to discomfort, why not pop into the practice and trial some more modern ranges to see if you still struggle wearing them?
I have astigmatism, I can’t wear contact lenses
As mentioned above, advancing technology means there is a much wider range of lenses available. Speak to one of our team members to see if there is a lens that will be suitable to your needs before you rule them out entirely!
I don’t want to replace glasses with contact lenses
Then don’t! Many of our patients who wear contact lenses also own a pair of glasses. You can wear contact lenses as often or as little as you like depending on your lifestyle needs.
Contact lenses are expensive
Of all the myths surrounding contact lenses, this is one that crops up the most. Contact lenses can be a very affordable form of eye care, with monthly replacement lenses working out as cheap as 40p per month. You can also purchase daily disposable lenses from £1 per week.
